London Fashion Week: Acne

The Acne show was held in London’s Sir Jon Soanne museum, including live band. The affair had a very grungy feel to it, very moody and broody, with trouser and jackets in dark blues and black. The highlights were the accessories though, with big heeled, coloured boots, with rubber soles, leather satchels and knitted hats, all showing just how far they have come from when they started out as a jeans label.

Kid Sister

Not necessarily a brand spanking new artist or crop of tunes (if you want new, check out The Tip Top) but with a scrumptious mix of Salt N Pepa sass and Spank Rock beats, you do get Kid Sister and with her comes a song that I can’t stop playing (it is that good).

This song is of course “Family Reunion”, which is chilled and PC enough to play at any family BBQ but makes you want to dance so much you could drop it anywhere, actually probably not but it’s still a TUNE. I also have a lot of time for Dem Slackers remix, which is electro and synth laden.

London Fashion Week: Deryck Walker

Deryck Walker’s new collection “Oracle” was showcased in a Parisian gentleman’s club, which saw the Scottish designer showcase some extremely fine tailoring, with lots of cropped trousers, boxy jackets, with contrasting pockets and lapels and double collared shirts, which gave the collection a “scaly cool” look.

Overall, this new collection saw a more authentic outlook on tweed for the season, where everyone else trying to make tweed look to new, which ultimately gave Walkers collection more character and the edge over other designer trying to re-fashion tweed.

London Fashion Week: Petar Petrov

The Bulgarian based designer Petar Petrov began his show with his models walking down the neon paved catwalk wearing pale grey suits, with things moving more Technicolor towards the end. Trousers were slim cut with ankles dip-dyed in neon colours to match the shoes, with them moving from smart to casual as the show went on.

His pieces included crop jackets, with elbow detailing, parkas worn with slogan and smiley face tees. His knitwear featured a very wide V, which were always layered with another wide V, culminating in an enthralling collection.

London Fashion Week: Henry Holland

And the Oscar for most hip front row (Pixie and Peaches Geldoff, Jamie Winstone, Alfie Allen, Nick Grimshaw, Nicola Roberts and woman of the night Agness Deyn) goes to.............Henry Holland. His new collection saw a designer maturing from his cheeky rhyming T-shirts of old. This collection saw Henry Holland buck this week’s most popular trends and saw him march to his own beat, with his durex card and panotone inspired collection, saw tailored jackets, skinny pants, tights and jumpsuits, with the key theme STRIPES!!!!

"Henry's collection this season is amazing – it's like seeing a different designer each season, but with the same elements. It's poppy and bold and totally reflects his personality. It feels more luxurious and sophisticated for A/W '09 – Henry's totally growing up. But I always feel so nervous before his shows 'cos he's like my brother and my husband in one!"
-Agness Deyn

London Fashion Week: Paul Smith

Quirky British designer Paul Smith carried on his trademark of mismatched clothes, which somehow always work. His collection was ripe with tweed (cropped jackets, capes and duffel coats), brutish pinestriping and old school floral.

Combined with all the duller colours, were uplifting bursts of pink and green. It wouldn’t be a Paul Smith show without his trademark stripes, which were incorporated in subtly. All in all, another show stopper from Paul Smith.

London Fashion Week: Vivienne Westwood

YAY! London Fashion Week is finally upon us, it’s your second favorite time in the calendar, next to your birthday (you know its true). Whilst Made from Plastic wasn’t at the shows due to the lack of tickets (must have got lost in the post, fucking Royal Mail), we will be reporting from all the shows giving you the lowdown in a bite size and easy to digest form all week.

First on the agenda is another Made from Plastic favorite, I know we have lots of them, the first lady of anarchy Vivienne Westwood. Let’s fast forward in time to the present and where we have her “Vivienne Westwood Red Label” collection, which offers a less in your face style than we are used to, but then again she didn’t design the range, her team did and it shows. This isn’t a bad thing as it offers a more sensible line for the women who yearn to wear Westwood but are too fashion conservative. The range however, does feature some excellent pieces, in particular the pinstripe skirt suit, amongst many other superb items.

There were some very notable front row A-listers aswell, which were in the form of Girls Aloud Nicola Roberts, Siouxsie Sioux, Jamie Winstone and an unlikely appearance from David Walliams, which just shows how widespread her appeal is.

Johnny Love

For quite some time Made from Plastic has been falling more and more in love with Johnny Love, especially after seeing their Spring/Summer 09 collection earlier this year, which features some MUST HAVE pieces, with their double belt a personal favourite.

Johnny Love combines the tradition of fashion, with the attitude of cutting edge street style. The items feature brilliant quality fabrics and materials, with the marriage of unique cuts and detailing. Johnny Love is currently sold through independent store across Europe and China.

Love

Very exciting week for the fashion conscious, with London Fashion Week kicking off as well as a new journal/magazine to satisfy and excite your senses in the form of Love, which features a superbly higher class of writing that Made from Plastic is able of.

Love magazine, which went on sale on sale on 19th February in all note worthy newsstands and is the new love child from Katie Grand who gave us POP, the best super-glossy out at the moment.

The excitement has already spread over to Paris, with a special collectors T-shirt available to mark the first issue, which features a very naked Beth Ditto from The Gossip as the cover model.

So what are you waiting for, go grab a copy!!!

I love Boxie

Slogan T-shirts have been coming back around and around and around.........................................................and around, more times than that tired old pair of jeans you keep wearing, much against everyone’s advice, Made from Plastic might add. The London based label I love Boxie is set to reinvent the slogan Tee, without the crudeness and price tag that Henry Holland brought with his. I love Boxie Tees are offering a wittier and more subtle design, which sets them worlds apart from those more generic slogan Tees, which feature those terrible gags, sexual innuendos, such as the not so classic “I’m with stupid”.

Their designs or your designs, depending on how creative you are feeling are aptly called “Half the Conversation”, which features slogans and snippets of conversations such as: “What happens next”, “I’m not a billboard” and many more, which involved more typing than I am willing to give. Made from Plastic is urging you to check them out!!!

The night is hosted by them tip top Aussie DJ’s Radeo Vidio (James Manning and Aaron Coultate), who having been making tsunami like waves at the moment, with their electro/techno/pop/hip hop style.

Radio Vidio will DJ for the majority of the night, which will have you shaking what your mother gave you all night. Any additional acts will be confirmed soon.

The Sunshine Underground

I will make it no secret that Made from Plastic is a HUGE fan of the Leeds based band, The Sunshine Underground (The sun does literally shine out of their ass, in my opinion). So it is great news that they are first, finally adding the finishing touches to their second album, which I will rave about when I hear it.
Secondly, they have made a collaboration with fellow Leeds dance floor fillers FC Kahuna, who did put out a remix of “Put you in your place”, which made little noise for obvious reason BUT this collaboration is an absolute stormer.

We Have Band

Made from Plastic favourite new band comes in the form of former EMI employees and electronic humping We Have Band. Founded in Manchester, the trio (Thomas, Dede and Darren) are making waves with their first single “Oh” released on Kitsune but their real ace in the hole comes in the form of their Pet Shop Boys reinterpretation “West End Girls”. A definite one to watch!
