Smith Westerns consists of Cullen Omori (vocals), Max Kakacek (Guitar), and Cameron Omori (Bass). Since forming in 2007, their self recorded “lo-fi” debut Smith Westerns released in 2009, garnered critical acclaim for their youthful and glam rock tinged approach to pop music.

The young New York indie-pop buzz duo Cults, consisting of Madeline Follin (vocals) and Brian Oblivion (guitar and vocals). The film-students-turned-musicians from San Francisco create a nostalgic buzz with their 1960s-sounding tunes about love and loneliness, executed with a sublime pop haze.

San Diego's Charles Rowell and Brandon Welchez, AKA Crocodiles make highly melodic, yet drenched in fuzz, electronic music, with lots of reverb to spare. Their debut Summer of Hate, has just been released and well worth checking out.

Soul singer Matt Henshaw hailing from the East Midlands, has recently collaborated with B-boy soul musician ReggiiMental to produce outstanding debut album “The Deepest Cellar”. Maximum Balloon

With TV On the Radio stiill on their hiatus, expect the side projects to come rolling in, with the latest venture coming from Dave Sitek in the form of Maximum Balloon. With an album set to be released in August, with their first release and superb dance floor filler "Tiger" giving an indication of another master class from the super producer.

Bristol's Wilder are an electro-punk funk four piece who are named after 40s film legend Billy Wilder and 80s Transformer cartoon character. They have quite a diverse musical array but think energetic, new wave pop and you have your new favourite band and sound of the summer...enjoy!

Beach Fossils

Beach Fossils are a sublime offering of pop perfection, with their extremely catchy tunes. They perfectly combine jangly pop, with youthful energy, culminating in something that is sun drenched, with a hazy aesthetic.

The Magic Kids

Nashville’s, The Magic Kids have been causing some a bit of stir their flamboyant SXSW performance and rightfully so, with their sublime breezy, sweet, catchy pop songs. Made from Plastic loves this band and is pretty sure you will too.

Surfer Blood

Surfer Blood are not exactly hot off the press but still a band who have managed to produce Made from Plastic’s favourite album of the year. Their infectious blend of Lo-Fi, garage, surfer pop are well and truly bringing in the summer and to top it off they have recently covered Made from Plastic’s all time favourite Beach Boys song in “Don’t Worry Baby”, which makes them winners.

Sex Beet

Sex Beet are a London based group currently producing some of the best lo-fi, garage, surf rock around. Made from Plastic’s are massive fans of this band so make sure you check them out at this month’s Bad Seed.

Esben and The Witch

Esben and The Witch is a Brighton trio who have taken their name from a Danish fairytale involving cruelty to children, ritual slaughter and other unpleasantness, which I won’t mention. Their music is very dark, gloomy, with electronic and Goth overtones. The band them self have described their influences as “glaciers, caverns and waning moons” and that they write dark tales, which indeed they are but oddly inviting.

Trailer Trash Tracys

One of the bands who have been occupying Made from Plastic’s stereo recently are Trailer Trash Tracys, who quite simply make big, beautiful music surrounded in reverb, their own drones and woozy atmospherics.

The Heartbreaks

The latest in an extremely long line of must talk about bands come in the form of Morecambe based, The Heartbreaks, who make brilliantly poppy, poetic, charming and punchy music, which couldn’t be any better unless you were at the seaside, with fish & chips in hand. They are also extremely snappy dressers, which gets them double thumbs from Made from Plastic, so check them out.
